Avi Schönfeld’s “Agitato” Takes Center Stage
At the International Piano Competition de Saint-Nom-La Bretèche, competitors had to perform “Agitato” by Avi Schönfeld, who served on the jury. Schönfeld, general director of the Institute of Pianistic Research Maastricht, judged at Orleans Concours International.
He was commissioned a fifth time to compose for Paris’s École Superieur de Musique, Alfred Cortot. “Agitato” echoes his earlier work “Animato” and is published by Henry Lemoine.

At the International Piano Competition de Saint-Nom-La Bretèche, participants performed “Agitato” by Avi Schönfeld as a compulsory work. Schönfeld, who is the general director of the European Institute of Pianistic Research Maastricht, also served on the jury at this competition. Additionally, he was a jury member at the Orleans Concours International.
Avi Schönfeld was commissioned for the fifth time to write a composition for the competition of the Ecole Superieur de Musique, Alfred Cortot, in Paris, which took place in May 2000. The piece was performed by more than sixty candidates from around the world.
The composition “Agitato” is considered a twin to Schönfeld’s earlier work “Animato,” sharing the same length and difficulty. Both pieces are published by Max Eschig in Paris.
